Summer Solstice
Great fun while
it lasted! The rain made it quite exciting as most people
enjoyed the rain. Thanks to Sue Overend, Elsie Bell, and others
who helped with GSOC promotion flyers handed out during the event.

JULY
VOLLEYBALL AT HAL'S BACKYARD July
5 at 2pm. Come one come all! Join us for continued volleyball
fun at Hal's Backyard Beach on Belews Lake. Fun,
food, friends and of course, volleyball.... what more could you want?
Later that evening see fireworks on the lake . Need boats
and or pontoons to see the display of fireworks. Contact Karen

DAN RIVER TUBING TRIP ON SATURDAY
Spend the day on the
refreshing Dan River near Hanging Rock State Park. We will meet in the
Wal-Mart parking lot on Battleground Ave. at 8:45 AM. We will depart
sharply at 9:00. The cost will be $9 per tube.
We will collect your tube
money before we leave. Make checks payable to Danbury General Store.
Directions: Take 220 north to
158 and turn left towards Belews Lake. Follow 158 into Stokesdale where
it merges with 65. Follow 65 to 311 which is immediately past the
railroad tracks. Turn right & follow 311 thru Walnut Cove until 311
& 89 split. Stay left & follow 89 about 3 miles past Danbury.
The Danbury General Store is on the right immediately past the Route 8
bridge over the Dan River. Park at the General Store (593- 8780) on to
the right.
Consumption of beer around the
store is not permitted and is monitored by the local police. The trip
will last about 3 hours. We recommend renting one tube for your cooler.
You are allowed to bring beer on the river.
Please respect the beauty of
the area & do not litter!!!! We will be taken by truck to the
drop off spot where our tubes already have been placed. Please wait for
everyone to arrive before going on the river. At the end, only get out
of the river on your right side at Danbury General Store because it is
illegal to bring alcoholic beverages into the park on the left side. We
recommend bringing a picnic lunch, cooler, refreshments, a change of
clothes, sun screen & rope to tie the tubes together. There is a
place to change & shower at the store. Enjoy yourselves!
